A Wish List for Leaders (No Wrapping Paper Required) 🎁

Dear Reader,

As the year wraps up, many of us are making wish lists for 2025. Some are practical, some are aspirational, some involve meeting a Spice Girl (I’ll take any! I’m not picky).

But what if we could draft one not for gifts under the tree or in front of the menorah, but for the tools, mindsets, and habits we wish for as leaders in the year ahead?

Well, I've got you covered. I've created a list you can steal, adapt, or pick and choose from as you see fit:

Tracy's Leadership Wish List

A Courage Compass 🧭

Wish: To say "no" without secretly stressing about it for three days afterward.

Action: Remember, “no” doesn’t need a backstory, it’s the full sentence.

Boundaries That Hold Up Under Pressure 🚧

Wish: Boundaries that stand tall, even against the dreaded, ‘Hey, I’ve got a quick favor to ask…”

Action: Channel your inner bouncer: if it’s not on the list, it’s not getting in.

A Less Crowded Calendar 📅

Wish: A meeting fairy who swoops in and deletes anything that could’ve been an email.

Action: Ask yourself, “Would anyone’s life be worse off if this meeting disappeared?” If the answer is no, cancel it.

A Magic Wand for Difficult Conversations 🪄

Wish: To turn “we need to talk” into something that doesn’t make people panic-text their friends.

Action: Use humor to disarm tension. Maybe start with, “No, this isn’t about your suggestion to replace team-building exercises with nap time. Though I’m still considering it.”

An Empowerment Toolkit for Your Team 🛠

Wish: To delegate without accidentally micromanaging five minutes later.

Action: Hand it over, then sit on your hands if you have to. It’s your direct report's turn to shine.

Less Perfection, More Progress 📈

Wish: To hit send on an email without going back to make sure you didn't include too many exclamation points.

Action: Hit send and remind yourself that if they notice the exclamation points, they probably needed a little extra enthusiasm in their day anyway.

A Recharge Button 🖲️

Wish: For self-care to feel less like a luxury spa day and more like a basic human right.

Action: Block “you time” on your calendar and treat it like a meeting with Sporty Spice (ok, maybe I am picky): non-negotiable.

Here’s to Leading with Intention in 2025

What’s on your wish list? Let me know. Bonus points if it’s as practical as a standing desk and as life-changing as a day without emails.

Here’s to making 2025 the year we lead with more purpose, balance, and joy. And happy holidays to you and yours! ❄️

Cheers, Tracy

Dear Reader, I was looking at my to-do list yesterday, and some of the things that I continue moving from page to page were staring at me with major side-eye. As I looked at all of the items I’d yet to cross off, I started noticing a few patterns: ➡️ I had scheduled more things for the day than I could actually handle. Am I a wizard? No. Then why do I keep doing this to myself? ➡️ Some tasks have been lingering for months. "Organize file cabinet" has basically become a permanent resident on...

Dear Reader, If you’re hearing the Talking Heads in your head right now thanks to the subject line of this email, you’re not alone. That lyric has been running through mine pretty constantly as I reflect on a new personal milestone: earning a new coaching credential, my PCC (Professional Certified Coach), through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Because five years ago? This wasn’t the plan. At the time, I was a research executive at a major media company, climbing the corporate...

Dear Reader, You know that person in your life who helped shape your values, your interests, your sense of humor, and even your music tastes? For me, that person is my mom. And seeing as today is her birthday, I want to take this opportunity to celebrate her. 🎉 You see, my mom is not only adorable (the woman is pocket-sized), she’s also taught me so much about what it means to be a strong, independent woman. So, in honor of her, here’s some wisdom that I’ve learned from her over the years. 🎉...
